A Literary Conflict WebQuest Create a "Silent Film" using Literary Conflict
Think about all the movies you've watched over the years. Think about the books you've read. They all contain a basic conflict. They often contain more than one.
This WebQuest is part of a curriculum on visual literacy and asks students to explore the basic four literary conflicts that exist in all stories. We will not only review the definitions, but we will explore how conflict is illustrated in the visual medium known as film. And not just any film, silent film!
Students are given the opportunity to see examples of the literary conflicts in the early silent films of D.W. Griffith. What better way for students to explore how filmmakers tell their stories in a visual manner than watching stories unfold with no sound?
Using this knowledge, students then create their own videos using one of the literary conflicts. Students should have a working knowledge of how to use a camcorder and how to edit in either Microsoft's MovieMaker or Apple's iMovie.
